I had a quick business assignment last week for The Wall Street Journal. Local man, been laid off twice so he started is own business making dog treats. Get in, get out, no problem, right? Oh, did I mention the subject, David Shunkey is autistic, doesn’t speak, and really doesn’t make eye contact? A challenge for me as a photographer, tough subject on a tight deadline, but an inspirational story I was happy to help tell.

I had a opportunity to work as second photographer with my new friend Eric Cousineau at Bill and Emily’s wedding at La Posada de Santa Fe. It’s only the second time I’ve worked as the second shooter at a wedding, and it’s  a little strange for me because I don’t know the couple heading into the day, but it’s also fun because it’s my job to try to see things the primary photographer can’t, which is how I try to approach most things I photograph. Seeing the beauty that most people take for granted, or don’t see because they are too busy.

I had a change to check out the swing dancing at Height Community Center with my new friends Brian and Marisa, who are regulars at the Tuesday night event and avid dancers. They are the couple still dancing after the music had stopped in the last picture, and I love the way Marisa looks at Brian. It’s the look of true love.

My friend Craig Fritz shot an incredible Seeing page on this a few years back at the Trib, and these images don’t even come close to his work from it, but it was fun to check out for myself.

My smallest and most famous client, The Guadalupe County Communicator, asked me to follow NM Lt. Governor candidate Joseph Campos in a benefit motorcycle ride from Albuquerque to Madrid. Here is to the Media Empire in Santa Rosa!

I got called this week to make some portraits to accompany a story for the New York Daily News for an article about Martha Burk as Tiger Woods prepares to return to Golf. Burk led a demonstrations during Masters week at Augusta National Golf Club in 2003 to protest their male-only membership policy. There are a few more portraits of Martha Burk in my archive available for licensing.

February 23rd marks the final edition of the Albuquerque Tribune. For this, the second anniversary, alumni gathered to remember the best little newspaper ever. It was wonderful seeing so many members of my tribe, and I miss those who couldn’t join us.
