Peripatetic life is a family affair

National Geographic photographer Annie Griffiths Belt has a new book and talked to NPR about life on the road with her two children.

Kansas again

I’m in Greensburg Kansas this week for the one year anniversary of the F5 tornado that destroyed 95% of the town. I’m working for CBS News for the first five days and for Discovery over the weekend. Here is a quick link to a slideshow I shot this morning.

The locals from Greensburg have been amazing. They are upbeat and friendly in the face of great adversity. The folks from CBS are rebuilding a park for them, which I’ll be documenting all week long.

Reinvention

”which led to grad school for a self-imposed timeout and a reinvention of myself as a photographer, a process which will probably continue till I die. As you can see, it’s been a long and winding road.”

Here is a link to an interview with photographer Susana Raab I found on the APAD blog. I’m not heading to grad school anytime, but I’m all about reinventing myself right now, and hopefully always.

POYi in Washington DC

I had a good time at the Pictures of the Year International. Met a lot of cool people. Here are just a few.

Top is Matt Eich photographing Rich-Joesph Facun after a recent court appearance.
Middle is Chris Detrick using a amber filter while photographing Ramin Rahimian.
At bottom is me accepting an award for my editor and friend Mark Holm for his work in the final full year at The Trib.

Also check out students Dominic Nahr and Justin Maxon, not pictured, but their work is worth seeing.

a death in the family

On Saturday Feb. 23 The Albuquerque Tribune published its last paper. For me it truly was like having a family member die. The Trib was a great place to work, to grow as an artist and journalist. But this blog isn’t about that, it is about my life and work after newspaper. Stay tuned…
