I’ve been really bad about posting of late, but the good news is that I have been busy so there is no shortage of work to share. Here is my take from a story I did for The Communicator recently on rookie jockey Jude Baca from Santa Rosa who is already winning races at the Downs of Albuquerque. My friend Jakob Schiller did a feature on Jude while he was still in high school, getting ready for prom, so check it out too.

I spent a wonderful afternoon going to White Mesa with Michael and Juliette to make some engagement portraits last week. It gave me a chance to get to know them better before I photograph their wedding in the fall, and I like to think it helps them get comfortable and be natural and relaxed with the camera. There are a few more pictures of the happy couple on my archive.

Hilda Raz for the Lincoln Journal Star

Hilda Raz, writer, poet, author, editor at her home in Placitas New Mexico (Steven St. John)

I had the great opportunity to meet and photograph Hilda Raz for the Lincoln Journal Star last week. Hilda and her husband Dale just moved to Placitas, and Nebraska’s loss is New Mexico’s gain. You should read the article. You can also see more of the photos from my first visit with Hilda and Dale on my online archive.

(Steven St. John)This was my first sports assignment since, well, last years New Mexico State High School Basketball tournament. Obviously sports isn’t a big emphasis of my work, but it’s fun picking up the occasional assignment documenting these student athletes who play with such heart and dedication.
